Air Freight Logistics Manager, Cork

Logistics & Supply Chain Management

Leading Cork based specialist high-tech manufacturer now seek to hire a Logistics Manager. The experience listed is essential and is a priority role so please review entire Spec. 

Reporting to the Senior Manager Global Compliance & Logistics and working closely with the Supply, Distribution & Quality teams, the purpose of this role is to manage all traffic to & from their global distribution centres, ensuring that, at all times, exceptional service and cost are maintained within the expectations of the business.

Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Directly responsible for budget performance relating to all primary transport movements, including imports & exports
  • Develop & monitor budget and forecasting models for inbound & outbound traffic costs
  • Arrange for delivery of goods in accordance with Incoterms and in compliance with applicable import & export regulations
  • Recommend optimal transportation modes, routing, equipment, or frequency
  • Analyse the financial impact of proposed changes to routing, transportation modes, product volumes/mixes, or carriers, to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting goods
  • Collaborate with other departments such as purchasing, customer order management, accounting, or shipping and lead the agenda to effectively minimise cost of transportation
  • Propose relevant and cost effective models, policies or procedures for global traffic activities 
  • Plan, recommend & implement continuous improvements to internal or external processes
  • Participate in carrier management processes, such as selection, qualification, or performance evaluation
  • Manage preferred carriers ensuring that expected levels of service & efficiency are maintained at all times
  • Establish & monitor cost & time-in-transit performance measurements
  • Develop, implement & maintain appropriate visual management performance indicators
  • Lead communication with vendors, suppliers, and internal departments to resolve problems concerning transportation, carrier applications, imports or exports, or customer issues
  • Implement specific customer requirements, communicate transportation information to customers or suppliers
  • Develop risk management programs to ensure continuity of supply in emergency scenarios
  • Train shipping department personnel in roles or responsibilities regarding global traffic processes
  • Supervise the work of Logistics specialists, planners, analysts or schedulers
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and appraisals

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years relevant operational and leadership management experience in international airfreight or logistics is essential  
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline desirable
  • Commercially astute, cost management awareness, able to maintain and drive the business against targets and forecasts
  • Capable of driving change, providing fresh thinking and an alternative perspective
  • A self-starter, able to take the initiative and push projects forward
  • Solutions focused, able to work well under pressure and adapt quickly depending on the work provided
  • Ability to constructively & convincingly challenge the views of others when required, to bring about positive change
  • Able to lead, influence, motivate and generate teamwork among a cross-functional group of stakeholders
  • Candidates should be team-oriented and have a strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to operate successfully across an organisation at all levels
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Office, ERP & TMS applications 
  • Available to travel as business needs require (estimate 10-15%)
