A leading independent freight forwarder with busy offices in Dublin and Cork now seeks an experienced Air Ocean Freight Forwarder. Working in a small team, you will process import and export bookings, complete customs clearance and files to the point of billing.
This role requires a strong understanding of freight forwarding operations, local customs regulations, and excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with clients, carriers, and customs authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage air and ocean import/export freight shipments from origin to destination.
- Liaise with shipping lines, airlines, and carriers to book space and ensure timely transportation.
- Prepare and verify shipping documents, including bills of lading, air waybills, and packing lists.
- Monitor the progress of shipments and provide regular updates to clients.
- Handle any issues that arise during transit, including delays, damage, or customs holds.
- Prepare and submit customs declarations for import and export shipments in compliance with Irish customs regulations.
- Ensure all necessary documentation is accurately completed and submitted on time.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in customs regulations and tariffs, ensuring compliance in all processes.
- Resolve any customs-related issues, including tariff classification, duty payments, and clearance delays.
- Communicate effectively with customs authorities, clients, and internal teams regarding clearance status and any required actions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing them with timely updates and support throughout the shipping process.
- Advise clients on best practices for shipping and customs to optimize their logistics operations.
- Ensure all processes adhere to company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements.
- Negotiate rates with carriers and service providers to achieve cost-effective, profitable shipping solutions.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in air and ocean freight forwarding.
- Proven experience in processing customs entries for import and export shipments.
- Strong understanding of international freight forwarding operations, including air and ocean transport.
- In-depth knowledge of Irish customs regulations and procedures.
- Familiarity with trade compliance, tariffs, and duty management.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, carriers, and customs authorities.
- Proficient in using freight management and customs software.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in processing documentation and customs entries.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle unexpected issues effectively.
Terms:
Full-time permanent, office-based, Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:30 Hrs
