A leading provider of global logistics and freight forwarding services, now seeks to hire a  Team Leader based in Dublin 15.

The purpose of the role is to manage, develop and lead a customer focused Operational Support Team in providing effective and efficient handling of all customers’ operational/service requirements. This role will have operational, as well as people management responsibilities (teams of approx. 4-8 people).

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • To ensure the team provides the effective and efficient management of export/import shipments for all our customers to/from global destinations, ensuring they are tracked, monitored, and managed in accordance with best practice/industry standards, organisational policies, and procedures, and ensuring compliance with relevant local, country, and international laws and processes
  • To effectively manage the operational team and team members to ensure Gross Profit targets are achieved/maximised, through:
  • Ensuring that team members take ownership of the management of their client files, this includes but is not limited to, ensuring the:
  • Effective and timely management of Income Reserves (AR, COD, and Duty and VAT), Credit Reserves
  • Accurate accruing of reserves and timely reversal once costs have been received in
  • Ensures rent/demurrage/storage costs, where applicable, are not incurred by the company, through effective and timely management of transport collections and deliveries, or through billing back costs to the customer
  • Accurate and timely management of Events into the appropriate transport management system|
  • Files are closed will all complete and accurate documentation (customs compliance, operational and accounting) – this should include the Team Leader undertaking regular file audits to understand whether further support and training is required |
  • Ensuring team members maximise Gross Profit targets, whilst delivering customer service excellence, through application of sound Product/Commercial Awareness for all shipments at each stage of their journey – quotation, booking, processing, delivery and closing of the file
  • To ensure they and their team work closely with the Operational Controller to ensure that financial reports for the branch are reflective of activity, and where issues are identified, appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • To be fully responsible and accountable for the day to day management and leadership of the operational team, to achieve short and medium term growth and profitability targets for their team, including building performance through excellent people management and leadership skills and practices. 
  • Works closely with their operational team to build a solid team spirit and drive the delivery of outstanding operational and customer service excellence, ensuring best practice procedures are consistently followed, issues highlighted, and corrective action taken where necessary
  • Planning, monitoring and management of operational workforce requirements to meet short and medium term team delivery requirements, including staff development, absence management, staff retention and turnover, ensuring adequate cover during staff absences and periods of increased workloads.
  • Planning, co-ordinating and supervising work activities of the team, ensuring resources are utilised appropriately; the team are prioritising/reprioritising activities to respond to changing business and customer needs; and activities are carried out to deadlines and within agreed working practices and procedures.    
  • Provides timely and accurate information/updates to the team on areas that affect their work; sets work objectives; and provides challenge, support and guidance, where necessary.
  • Effectively manages performance of the team and team members, providing support, guidance and development to their teams/team members to ensure they are able to deliver the requirements of their job role, and where appropriate, for future progression.   
  • Manages the effective resolution of employee relations issues within the team 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous experience in multi-modal freight forwarding is essential. Exposure to airfreight is a distinct advantage
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years’ experience managing a team on an operational basis
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years’ experience people management experience
  • Excellent communicator and capable of motivating your own team
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high pressure environment
  • Able to work on your own initiative with the support of your Line Manager
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines
