A well-established SeaFood Wholesale and Retail business now requires an experienced Despatch Manager to lead a team of long-term operatives and drivers.

The successful candidate will manage elements of the dispatch function so that all customers’ deliveries are met in such a manner as to provide the best possible service. This role is perfect for a passionate and career-driven candidate.  What will you get in return? Due to the nature of the business, this is an early start with the working hours circa 5:00 am - 2:.00 pm daily. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate order fulfilment requirements with effective route scheduling to create the most efficient daily delivery schedule. 
  • Ensure that transport operations meet legal and customer compliance requirements.
  • Be responsible for scheduling/maintaining van maintenance, DOE, service, tax/insurance compliance on all vans. 
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships within departments. 
  • Lead and motivate all employees by managing and monitoring all employee matters such as job objectives, appraisals and reviews to best practice and agreed standards.
  • Be responsible for the efficient and cost-effective operation of the Vans. 
  • Close monitoring of economic and environmental conditions to understand and react to risks and opportunities that may impact service or costs.
  • Experience with Route and driver roster planning to drive efficiencies while meeting customer requirements and Complexity (utilising Driver App (transpoco) 
  • Ensure service and profitability levels are developed/maintained in accordance with departmental targets/budgets.
  • Ensure that the company operates within all agreed operational procedures, and within all statutory requirements.
  • Identify and report to management on the department’s needs and requirements.

Minimum Requirements and skills:

  • Minimum of 6-8 years plus in a Dispatch management role or similar in a paced FMCG environment. 
  • Excellent communication, people management and customer service skills.
  • Experience of managing in a busy transport department with circa 20 drivers in a high volume/turnover business.
  • Good organisational and administration skills with the ability to solve problems in a fast-moving environment.
  • High level of computer literacy and ability to interpret and analyse data.
  • Thorough knowledge of distribution operations including specific processes such as H&S and HACCP etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of Road Transport Legislation.
  • Customer focused and driven.

Terms:   Full-time, Permanent.

Salary:  Negotiable depending on experience
