About the Role

As Assistant General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management and strategic development of the organisation’s operations in Dublin. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will oversee service delivery, lead a high-performing team, manage supplier relationships, and ensure that operational performance aligns with business goals.

This position requires a commercially minded, strategically focused individual who can balance operational efficiency with exceptional service standards, all while navigating the challenges of a dynamic, multimodal logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the General Manager in setting and executing strategic business plans.
  • Align operational objectives with wider organisational goals.
  • Contribute to market strategy and business development initiatives.
  • Oversee daily transport and logistics operations with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement efficiency-enhancing solutions.
  • Maintain high standards across all departments, ensuring service excellence.
  • Assist with budget planning, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring.
  • Drive cost control measures while maintaining quality and service delivery.
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers and service partners to ensure optimal performance.
  • Act as a key contact for high-value accounts, maintaining excellent client relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory standards.
  • Work closely with compliance teams to implement and maintain best practices.
  • Motivate, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team.
  • Conduct performance reviews and drive a culture of continuous professional development.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a senior operations or leadership role within a locally based shipping line, liner agency or ocean freight forwarder.
  • Strong commercial acumen and a demonstrated ability to manage P&L.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder management.
  • Experience managing cross-functional or geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Willingness to travel within Europe as required.
