An established North Dublin-based multinational freight forwarder and logistics company is seeking an ambitious and commercially driven Commercial Director to lead the company's growth strategy for their Irish office. Reporting to the Managing Director, this newly created position offers the opportunity to take ownership of all commercial activities, drive new business development and strengthen relationships with existing customers.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced senior freight and logistics sales professional who enjoys opening doors, winning new business and developing long-term strategic partnerships. There is no existing sales team, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to shape the commercial direction of the business from the ground up. They will be supported by an experienced Sales Administrator, enabling them to focus on customer engagement, strategic planning and revenue generation.
As the business grows, the Commercial Director will play a key role in building and developing the future commercial team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the company's commercial strategy to support long-term business growth.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities across Ireland and international markets.
- Develop strategic relationships with key customers and industry partners.
- Grow existing accounts by identifying additional service opportunities.
- Prepare commercial proposals, tenders and pricing strategies.
- Lead contract negotiations and close high-value commercial opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline using CRM systems.
- Work closely with the Operations team to ensure seamless customer onboarding and service delivery.
- Analyse market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities.
- Prepare sales forecasts, budgets and regular performance reports.
- Represent the business at customer meetings, networking events and industry exhibitions.
- Contribute to the wider strategic direction of the business as a member of the senior leadership team.
- Develop the future commercial structure as the business continues to expand.
Experience Required:
- Proven success in logistics and freight forwarding sales within the local market.
- Strong understanding of Irish and international freight markets.
- Demonstrable experience winning high-value logistics contracts.
- Experience selling multimodal transport, warehousing or supply chain solutions.
- Commercially astute with strong financial awareness.
- Excellent negotiation and presentation skills.
- Existing network of customers and industry contacts would be advantageous.
- Experience working with CRM systems and pipeline management.
- Ability to operate strategically whilst remaining hands-on in customer acquisition.
