We are currently seeking an experienced Garage mechanic supervisor to lead our client's team based in Cavan and ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of our client's extensive vehicle fleet. As Garage mechanic supervisor you will be responsible for the comprehensive management of our client's on-site garage operations. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead a team of 9 skilled staff, including vehicle mechanics, tire fitters, and apprentices. Your role is pivotal in ensuring the high-quality servicing, repair, and testing of the company's trucks and trailers.

Responsibilities:

  • Garage Operations: Manage day-to-day garage operations, including workload management.
  • Fleet Maintenance: Ensure trucks and trailers meet high maintenance standards and service intervals.
  • Testing and Certification: Oversee annual testing and certification, ensuring current CVRT certificates.
  • Refrigerated and GDP: Ensure service and calibration for refrigerated and GDP trailers.
  • Tachograph Calibration: Ensure tachographs in trucks are calibrated.
  • Service History: Maintain comprehensive service histories with the Fleet Manager.
  • Team Supervision: Lead and manage garage mechanics and support staff, oversee duties, hours, training, and safety.
  • Invoicing: Manage work invoicing with daily and weekly monitoring.
  • Safety Standards: Uphold cleanliness, equipment storage, and safety compliance.
  • Parts Management: Collaborate with Parts Manager to maintain efficient parts ordering and availability.
  • External Communication: Coordinate with external repair agencies as needed.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 2-3 years in a managerial role; 5 years preferred as a qualified HCV Mechanic.
  • Licensing: Full, valid driving license and HGV C license.
  • Track Record: Proven ability to manage a busy garage, ideally with fleets over 100 vehicles.
  • Time Management: Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Work Ethic: Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Communication: Effective English communication and negotiation skills (verbal and written).
  • Leadership: Able to lead a team for consistent high-quality work.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong decision-making abilities.
  • Reliability: Reliable, flexible, and positive approach to work.
