A large Cork-based industrial group are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to shape and embed a robust health and safety culture across the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive health and safety function from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of a Group Health & Safety strategy. (Using the ISO45001 framework).
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in line with HSE legislation and industry best practices.
- Act as the organisations subject matter expert on all health, safety, and compliance matters.
- Conduct risk assessments, develop safe systems of work, and ensure compliance with legislation and industry best practice.
- Oversee site-specific H&S initiatives across all locations in Cork and Dublin.
- Deliver staff training and toolbox talks on health & safety, manual handling, PPE use, traffic management, etc.
- Monitor and improve site safety in relation to vehicle movement, pedestrian safety, storage practices, and space management.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits, identifying hazards and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
- Investigate and report on accidents, incidents, and near misses, implementing preventative measures.
- Maintain and regularly update H&S documentation, including policies, procedures, and risk registers.
- Liaise with external agencies, auditors, insurance companies, and regulatory bodies as required.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging with staff at all levels to drive awareness and accountability.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills:
- +3 years experience in a similar Health & Safety role, ideally within distribution, logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing.
- Experience in the ISO 45001 management system and its use in H&S auditing along with knowledge of ISO 9001.
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification (e.g., Higher Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, IOSH, or equivalent).
- Proven experience establishing or significantly enhancing a H&S function
- Strong understanding of relevant H&S legislation and best practice.
- Experience in staff training and the delivery of H&S inductions and materials.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and health and safety reporting software.
- Full driving license and willingness to travel between locations.
