Our client, a well-established freight forwarding company, is seeking a Road Freight Import Operator to manage the end-to-end coordination of import and export road freight movements across Europe. You'll work closely with carriers, overseas partners, customers, and internal teams to deliver a high-quality freight forwarding service keeping shipments accurate, compliant, and moving on time. This is a great opportunity for someone who's commercially minded, proactive, and thrives on solving problems before they become issues.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end operation of European road freight import and export shipments
  • Coordinate with customers, carriers, overseas agents, and internal departments to ensure timely freight movement
  • Monitor shipment progress and proactively manage delays, exceptions, and service issues
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date shipment records in company systems
  • Ensure all activities comply with company procedures, transport regulations, and customer requirements
  • Deliver excellent customer service and manage customer expectations
  • Monitor costs and profitability, delivering services in a commercially responsible way
  • Negotiate rates and service terms with carriers and suppliers where required
  • Provide regular updates and reporting on operational performance and shipment status
  • Identify opportunities to promote additional services and support business growth
  • Escalate operational or commercial concerns to management in a timely manner
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the road freight operation

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of European road freight import and export operations
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to spot cost-saving and profit opportunities
  • Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive problem-solving and sound decision-making
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Negotiation and influencing skills with carriers, suppliers, and partners
  • Sound understanding of freight forwarding systems and operational processes
  • Financial awareness — understanding of costs, margins, and profitability
  • Resilience and adaptability in a changing operational environment
