A well-known, specialised logistics company based in Dublin 24 now seek a Management Accountant with experience within the freight, logistics or distribution environment. They are in an exciting stage of growth and development that will see the company double in size over the next two years. They operate a fleet of over 200 vehicles delivering nationwide.
The Management Accountant exists to protect margin, expose inefficiencies, and support operational decision-making across the business. This is a hands-on role embedded in operations — not a back-office reporting function. You will turn operational data (volumes, routes, hours, utilisation) into clear financial insight that drives pricing, cost control, and commercial strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce accurate monthly management accounts with clear variance analysis.
- Deliver meaningful commentary — explain why performance has changed, not just what changed.
- Maintain cost centre and profit centre reporting across business units, fleets, routes, or contracts.
- Analyse profitability by customer, contract, route, vehicle, and service type.
- Identify margin leakage, underperforming contracts, and pricing gaps.
- Support pricing, tenders, renewals, and contract re-negotiations with robust cost models.
- Lead annual budgets and rolling forecasts linked to operational volumes.
- Build scenario models (fuel cost changes, wage increases, volume fluctuations).
- Provide early warning of risks to margin, cash flow, or capacity.
- Work closely with Operations, Transport, Warehouse, and Commercial teams.
- Challenge assumptions using data and facts.
- Translate operational KPIs into financial outcomes.
- Monitor and analyse key cost drivers: labour, fuel, maintenance, subcontractors, warehousing.
- Track productivity and utilisation metrics.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives with financial insight.
- Leverage ERP / TMS / WMS data to improve reporting accuracy and insight.
- Improve financial models, dashboards, and reporting tools.
- Ensure data integrity between operational and financial systems.
Some Key KPIs You’ll Influence;
- Gross margin by business unit / customer / contract
- Cost per km / per delivery / per pallet
- Labour and overtime variance
- Fuel recovery effectiveness
- Depot / fleet profitability
- Forecast accuracy
What This Role Is Not;
- Not a pure financial accounting role.
- Not a passive reporting position.
- Not suitable for someone who avoids operational engagement.
Experience, Education & Skills:
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
- Experience in logistics, transport, supply chain, freight forwarding, or distribution.
- Strong commercial mindset — comfortable challenging operations and sales.
- Advanced Excel skills; strong data analysis capability.
- Ability to explain numbers clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Exposure to TMS, WMS, or logistics ERP systems.
- Background in pricing, tenders, or contract costing.
Why Join?
- Direct influence on commercial and operational decisions.
- High-visibility role with senior management.
- Opportunity to drive measurable improvements in margin and efficiency.
