Leading retail brand now seeks an experienced Transport & Logistics Manager for their Galway distribution centre. A full job spec will be available for suitable applicants, but in general, you will have responsibility for the management of a fleet of 20 company-owned trucks (rigid and articulated vehicles), delivering dry and paper products, together with perishable and frozen food products on a daily basis to over 100 locations throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland. Please note that this is a hands on role so a full Artic Licence, up-to-date Digi Card and CPC training is required as the Manager also provides driver cover during busy periods, holidays and sickness leave.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Day-to-day Operations, Route Planning, Compliance, Troubleshooting, Budgeting, Cost management, together with planned maintenance and upkeep of the fleet. 
  • Management and rostering of drivers, managing driver hours, holidays, weekend mobile unit and event catering transport. 
  • Ensuring regular communication and teamwork with other areas including the Purchasing and Warehouse Manager to ensure a coordinated and timely delivery of goods in keeping with main business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A full Artic Licence, up to date Digi Card and CPC training
  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience managing the Transport Function, to include drivers, maintenance of trucks, compliance in keeping with legislation, whilst maintaining budgets and efficiency.
  • An outgoing personality, together with a good knowledge of the transport systems in Ireland and enthusiastic approach to your work.
  • Excellent verbal and written English along with an excellent telephone manner. 
  • Good computer skills, able to negotiate various relevant computer packages including Microsoft Windows
  • Experience in the tight control of operating costs and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Good understanding of the role of Transport & Logistics Manager and to be strongly committed to staff as well as personal development.
  • A highly organised, adaptable, flexible, conscientious, mature and self-confident individual of integrity with a calm but focused personality and ability to work under pressure.
